Our Wallet

Tatoshi Wallet currently only supports Bitcoin. Other crypto currencies will soon be added.

The private key is only stored on your mobile device. Tatoshi Wallet nor your protectors have at any time access to your private key.

Tatoshi Wallet offers you a hierarchical deterministic (HD) Bitcoin wallet, which is created according to BIP 32. The private key is generated out of mnemonic words according to BIP 39.

If you want to recover your wallet by using you mnemonic words, the address derivation path is m/0′

In our menu “More” – “Back-up” you can find a feature display your mnemonic.

Yes, all of our transactions are SegWit transactions.

Messenger

With our messenger module, you can communicate with other Tatoshi Wallet users, request money or arrange a meeting to exchange recovery data.

We are currently collecting user feedback. If such a functionality should be requested from our users, we will implement it.

The messages are sent via encrypted internet connection and are stored encrypted in our database, but currently we are not providing a secure end-to-end encryption. Depending on the usage of our messenger, we are planning to implement this.

Friend List

The friend list helps you to find other people within our network. It exists out of two different tabs. In “My Contacts” you will find all your address book contacts. In the “All Users” tab, you can search the whole Tatoshi Wallet network.

In this tab you will find all of your Protectors and all Tatoshi Wallet users, that are in your address book. Additional you see all your address book contacts, that are not yet in Tatohi Wallet. Tap on the “+” to invite them to Tatoshi Wallet.

No, we are only storing data from users who are registered. Your address book data are checked against our user database, to inform you who of your friends is already on Tatoshi Wallet. After matching, we immediately delete the data that do not belong to our users.

On top of the friend list you will find a search box. Depending on the chosen tab (“My Contacts” or “All Users”) the search will be executed on your local address book or our user database. You can search for names or phone numbers.

Transactions

If there is no possibility to create a transaction with a change output of 0 or >500 Satoshi, we will add the change to the fee to avoid dust UTXOs.

Transactions that have not yet been added to a block are called unconfirmed transactions.

On top of the wallet screen, you find a search box. You can search for sender or receiver names, address or amounts.

Profile

Yes, these data are visible for all other Tatoshi Wallet users.

Adding a picture to your profile makes it easier for other users to find you.

No, it is optional to provide any personal data. But if you provide your name and location, other users can find you easier.

Protectors

To recover your funds, you need to meet your Protector. The more Protectors you have, the bigger is the probability that a Protector is available, when you need him.

When you are recovering, we are re-creating your mnemonic, but we cannot re-create the recovery data that you had stored from your other Protectors. That’s why you have to re-establish your protector relationships.

A Protector is a person with whom you are mutually sharing recovery data.

If you invite a user to Tatoshi Wallet, you automatically set-up a mutual protector relationship with that person. Additionally you can create a protector relationship with any other Tatoshi Wallet user. Just open his profile and start the activation process.

Recovery

This is done to prevent identity theft. While meeting, you are able to identify each other. With this, you ensure that nobody who pretends to be you, can initiate a recovery procedure.

The data stored with your protector is an encrypted version of your mnemonic, which is encrypted with a random 256bit key using AES. While the cyphertext is stored with your protectory, the key is again encrypted with your log-in credentials. The cyphertext of the random key is stored on our servers. The random key is discarded afterwards. All of these encryptions happen on your device. We will never see your mnemonic or random key.

To recreate your private key, you receive the encrypted mnemonic from your protector and the encrypted random key from our server. You decrypt the random key with your log-in credentials. Once you have re-generated the random key, you can use this to decrypt your mnemonic.

Yes, all protectors have the same data. Nevertheless, we recommend having at least 3 protectors. This increases your security, as protectors might not be available when you need them or could stop using Tatoshi Wallet and delete the app with your recovery data in.

Device Change

The Tatoshi Wallet is a non-custodial wallet. This means your private key is stored solely on your device. If you would like to change your device, you need to transfer your private key and your protector data to your new device. Tatoshi Wallet provides a functionality for this. In the menu “More” -> “Backup” you will find the function “device change”. Follow the instructions until the qr-code is displayed. Then download the app form the Appstore on your new device. Select “Recover” on your new device an follow the instructions.
