SegWit finally supported by Tatoshi Wallet

Tatoshi Wallet now supports SegWit for Bitcoin

We have been very busy with development and intensive testing over the last months. With the latest version, which is now available in the Apple Appstore, Tatoshi now supports Segregated Witness (SegWit) transactions.

The only thing you need to do to use SegWit is to update your app from the Appstore. After updating the app, all newly generated addresses will be non-native SegWit addresses. The funds that were in your wallet before the update will remain in your legacy addresses until you spend them.

To enable SegWit transactions, we have changed the used Bitcoin wallet library. Tatoshi Wallet now runs on Blockstream’s libwally-core library. This very well-maintained library will allow us to integrate future changes much faster. We are currently monitoring the adoption of bech32 very closely. As soon as the adoption of bech32 by the major crypto exchanges increases, we will activate bech32 addresses. However, with the latest release it is already possible to send to bech32 addresses.

In addition to these new features, we are already working on the next release. It will include a function to provide a “proof of wallet ownership signature”, as well as an integration of Bity’s trading services. We will also be making some changes to our infrastructure. Due to our growth in recent months, our system has become somewhat slow. We apologize for this and promise performance improvements with the next release.

We hope you enjoy the latest release of our app. If you have any feedback, please let us know.
